Hope in Action: The Purpose Behind Our Work

New Hope Shelter, Newton, KS

At New Hope Shelter, we are called to serve because we recognize the urgent need for shelter, stability, and transformation in the lives of the homeless in Harvey, Butler, Marion and McPherson Counties. The reality of homelessness is growing, and we are here to offer more than just a place to stay—we provide structure, accountability, and a path forward for those who are willing to do the work to rebuild their lives.

Faith at the Center

Everything we do is rooted in the teachings of the Bible. Jesus commanded us to feed the hungry and clothe the naked, and we take that call to heart. However, we believe that true transformation goes beyond physical needs—it begins with the Gospel. For this reason, we require all residents to participate in Bible study and Christian-based case management. Through spiritual growth, guidance, and accountability, we help individuals rediscover their worth and walk a path toward healing and stability.

More Than Shelter—A Path to Restoration

We are not an emergency shelter. Instead, we are a structured, faith-driven program designed to uplift those who are ready to take meaningful steps toward change. Entry into our shelter comes with responsibilities and expectations, ensuring that residents are committed to their personal growth and success.

Our program is built on the principle of empowerment; offering individuals the tools, resources, and guidance they need to move forward—not just in finding housing, but in restoring dignity, purpose, and hope.

Community-Powered Support

While we have dedicated staff members, our mission thrives through the commitment of volunteers and local churches. These individuals and groups provide invaluable support—organizing, cleaning, mentoring, and offering encouragement to our residents. Every meal served at New Hope Shelter is prepared by local residents and served by volunteers who care deeply about our mission. This community-driven model is at the heart of what makes our work sustainable and impactful.

Our Commitment

At New Hope Shelter, our mission is simple but profound:

To offer a hand up—not just a handout.

To support, not enable.

To empower through faith, not just shelter.

We believe that every life is better with Jesus—and through faith, structure, and the unwavering support of our community, we are changing lives one person at a time.
