STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART
It is only as I have worked here for a few years that I have come to realize the impact this place has had on the lives of hundreds of homeless people—some of them like “AK”.
At dusk on March 1st, we got a call from a convenience store worker in South Newton near the old Mall. She indicated that a disabled woman had been dumped on the side of the road with a couple of suitcases.
Shortly after picking up AK, we found that she was from South Dakota. Her family had left for Nevada and she had been purposely left behind. Over the next ten weeks we helped AK as she obtained public housing. We asked you to furniture and furnishings and food and we moved her to her own apartment on May 19.
On Dec. 5 she called asking us to stop by. She had gathered two huge boxes of food she wanted to donate to the Shelter. It was her way of showing her appreciation and gratitude for the help she received from the Shelter.
People constantly come in the door and apologize for the food, supplies, cash or check they are bringing us. Every little bit—put together, makes it so that our needs are supplied. Thank you for your support. As we finish up the year, please help us finish strong. We need your financial support—we have no government monies keeping our doors open.

A Big Thanks To
The Goessel High Students who came on November 30th and organized our Food pantry and a storage room and brought us food. You were amazing.
The Women’s Community Foundation which gave us a grant to assist our residents with their special needs.

We are excited about the progress we are making. We should have bids back from the various contractors who are studying the plans in the next couple of weeks. We appreciate your gifts to support our project to build a new facility at 308 South Meridian Road in Newton.
Every gift, large and small, helps us get closer to our goal of obtaining the Mabee Foundation challenge grant of $1,000,000 which puts us over the top.

A Thought...
As you are doing your last-minute Christmas shopping, (or if you are me--doing all your Christmas shopping), keep these thoughts in mind. Currently 69% of the people in America cannot come up with $1,000 in a time of emergency. 80% of the people in the store shopping with you are carrying a balance forward on their credit cards. They are not paying them off at the end of the month.
Please be careful as you shop and head into the New Year. Resolve to be in better shape financially with God’s help than you are today
